Heave Out, Lash Up and Stow. A family returns to Trinity after 75 years away.
Rick Peddle
I was born in Long Island NY in 1965. My dad was born up on the Nuddick in 1934 and my mom grew up in Belfast in the North of Ireland. We were the type of family that drove into Brooklyn every Sunday to have dinner at my grandparent’s house. My grandfather was born in Lockston as his father was. My grandmother grew up in Freshwater Carbonear. As my mom’s parents were deceased it was my dad’s parents that we were close with. When my grandmother passed away while I was in High School my grandfather moved in with us on Long Island and the two of us became very close. He would tell me about growing up in Trinity Harbor as well as going fishing, seal hunting and being in the navy.
I work as an Ironworker as my father and grandfather did and as my son does as well. I’ve worked on some memorable jobs including Citi Field where the NY Mets play as well as the Islanders new stadium. I’ve built high rises in Manhattan and worked at the clean up of the World Trade Center after the terrorist attack of 9/11.
I spent a wonderful summer in Newfoundland when I was 14 and returned for a family reunion in 2017. Fell in love with the place again and bought a place in Trinty the same year. I’ve spent every summer except the Covid summer there since. I hope to retire there.
My wife Maura and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary this past summer at Oh My Cheeses in Port Rexton and couldn’t have been happier. We have 3 wonderful and happy children.
