A Hidden Treasure: Gemstones of Newfoundland and Labrador

Elizabeth is a proud St. John’s native where she spent most of her life. She and her husband Ed built a seasonal home in Trinity in 2001 and in 2017 made it their permanent residence. Together they have raised 2 wonderfully successful children.

She is a graduate of the Salvation Army Grace General Hospital School of Nursing where she obtained the designation of Registered Nurse in 1982. Following a career as a Critical Care & Emergency Room nurse in 1997 she joined BYK Canada as a professional Pharmaceutical Representative launching an exciting & life-saving drug for GI bleeding. Eight years later Elizabeth left the healthcare sector altogether to pursue her love of painting & jewelry-making, establishing her own art & gift gallery in St. John’s.

In 2011 after selling the highly successful retail business she relocated her studio to Trinity where for the past 14 years she has designed & created jewelry for over 80 retail stores in Canada & the USA. Recently she traveled to the UK to investigate potential opportunities for expanding her brand.

Elizabeth is the recipient various industry awards including best product at the Provincial Craft trade show. She is a juried member of the Newfoundland & Labrador Craft Council, and a member of Visual Artists of Newfoundland and Labrador. She is also the recipient of Entrepreneur of the Year Award with the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Woman Entrepreneurs. (NLOWE) When she is not spending time with family & friends, Elizabeth enjoys serving her community in various capacities and initiatives

Elizabeth creates her jewelry from a diverse array of stones and metals, many of which can be sourced from the rich landscapes of our own province. I Elizabeth will guide us through an exploration of these natural & hidden treasures, sharing fascinating insights about their unique characteristics and origins. Additionally, she will discuss the locations where these mineral and gems can be found, enriching our understanding of their beauty, as well as their cultural and geological significance.
