Julia Laite is Professor of History at Birkbeck, University of London. Her most recent book The Disappearance of Lydia Harvey (2021) won the Golden Dagger for Non-Fiction from the British Crime Writer’s Association. Born and raised in St John’s and Trinity East, Newfoundland, she holds a BA (Hons) in history from Memorial University and a PhD in history from the University of Cambridge. Her new book project, This Beautiful and Broken Land, will re-tell the life stories of Shanawdithit, William Eppes Cormack and ten generations of her own obscure
